The Locally Delicious Team has started several projects. Three have been funded from profits from the sale of the book, Locally Delicious. All of the funds will be used for project in the community.

One of our team, Suzanne (Brandywine) Simpson, speaks about the projects done as of April 2010 on a short video produced by Dave Berman of Manifest Positivity.

Our first project was to give $3,000 to Food for People (FFP). The money raised from book sales was matched with money from a grant that Food for People had received. FFP selected six local farmers to grow specific food items for clients of the food bank. Produce items were selected so that various items will be available through the growing season and the foods were ones that FFP knew their clients would know how to use and would enjoy eating.

The second project was to provide the last bit of money needed to complete the Mobile Processing Unit for the Poultry Cooperative. The mobile unit is USDA approved and will allow our local farmers to process poultry and rabbits for sale at farmers' markets and at their farms. We will now all be able to enjoy local pasture raised poulty and local rabbit. See the North Coast Journal Article. and To learn more....

The third project was to provide "seed money" to the Potawot Garden in Arcata (United Indian Health Services) so they could grow starts to give to the Yurok community in Weichpec. This is the forth year plant starts have been given so that people can grow their own produce. Much of the food grow is shared with the elders in the community.

Our fourth activity is a demonstration garden for turning lawns into gardens. It also encourages people who have lawns or yards but can't grow their own food to share the space with people who have no land but can provide labor. Read more about the project.
