Locally Delicious!

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Farms

CSA farmers enjoy the security of knowing that their crops are sold right from the start of the season. Community members purchase shares in the output of a particular CSA farm and in return receive a box or bag of fresh food each week during the season. Buying a share in a CSA is a way to lower the overall cost of the food for the consumer, and at the same time get the freshest produce available. This subscription method of food shopping also helps support and extend local food production. You can even go see your food growing—what a treat.

Visit Democracy Unlimited of Humboldt County for:

  • Complete listing of CSAs for Humboldt County with prices per share (You will find some CSAs outside of Humboldt at the bottom of this page)
  • Assistance in finding community members interested in spliting a CSA share
  • More information on the economic benefits of the CSA model

Though Locally Delicious and Democracy Unlimited attempt to keep our information updated, please contact CSAs directly for the most up-to-date information on products, prices, and drop-off/pick-up locations.

Incorporated in 1970, UIHS is a non-profit tribal health consortium serving American Indians and their families in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. The UIHS Potawot Community Food Garden has more than two acres of organic gardens producing fruit, produce and herbs. Members buy shares and shop at the weekly market. The garden is part of the “Food Is Good Medicine Project” based on a nutritional model that honors traditional native foods and recognizes the spiritual connection existing between gathering, preparing and sharing of food. The emphasis is on the health of the people in “body, mind and spirit.”

In addition to the garden, UIHS offers classes that are open to the public. Contact Ed Mata for upcoming classes and space availability. An outreach component provides services and workshops at Weitchpec, Smith River Clinic and the Margaret Keating School. The garden project encourages home gardens and can supply starts. The garden does not have a formal intern program, but opportunities for interning on an informal basis are available.
